Product Care
Harry Winston jewels and timepieces are world renowned for their incredible quality in craftsmanship and design. In order to preserve and maintain the original integrity of your pieces, we recommend implementing some proper care and maintenance precautions to ensure they retain their beauty.
Jewelry Care
In order to retain its original beauty, we recommend you handle your jewelry with the utmost care and attention.
Harry Winston Care and Handling
Every Harry Winston jewel has its own story. It begins with rare or distinctive gemstones and an extraordinary design, followed by hours of skilled craftsmanship. To carry the Harry Winston name of excellence, every jewel is examined carefully by our dedicated team of quality assurance experts and gemologists to ensure our ever discerning standards are met. But the story does not end there. When you take your jewelry home, a new chapter begins, and properly caring for your Harry Winston jewelry will help ensure that it retains its intended beauty throughout its lifetime.
Jewels by Harry Winston are created with the utmost delicacy, and therefore need to be cared for to preserve their brilliance. We advise implementing suitable care and maintenance practices to help preserve their beauty. This is especially important for styles containing a multitude of diamonds and gemstones as the design focal point, such as eternity-set bands and micropavé-set engagement rings and wedding bands. The design of these styles allows for impact access to the entirety of the ring circumference. These styles require a high degree of care and maintenance and should be periodically examined at a Harry Winston Salon as needed.
Jewelry Care
To maintain the beauty of your Harry Winston jewelry and avoid possible damage to gemstones and metal, we recommend taking the following precautions:
- Avoid exposure to high temperatures, intense source of heat and abrupt temperature changes.
- Avoid exposure to salt and chlorinated water as well as lotions, perfumes, soaps, cosmetics or house hold chemicals.
- Avoid wearing jewelry during activities that can expose it to abrasive contact or impact damages like sports, gardening, etc.
- Be aware that gemstones can scratch other gemstones and abrade precious metals. Therefore, avoid stacking jewelry items that would be vulnerable to such abrasion.
Precautionary Measures and Storage
Inspect your jewelry for vulnerabilities. Check if the mechanical parts of your jewel, such as the clasp on necklaces and bracelets, and ear posts and clips on earrings are fully functional. A mechanical part that has loosened or become unsecured over time can result in loss or avoidable damage. In addition, ensure that all gemstones are secure in their settings and that the connections are not compromised.
When not being worn, store your jewelry items in a soft pouch separate from each other, in their original box provided at point of sale, or in a fabric lined case with compartments and dividers to prevent damages from metal to stone contact.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Proactive maintenance and cleaning plays an integral part in retaining your jewelry’s beauty.
Ultrasonic cleaning is not safe for many gemstones, so we advise against this method.
With that in mind, the following best practices are recommended.
Regular Home Cleaning
Regular home cleaning is an easy and effective way to avoid residue build up. However, not all jewelry items are suitable for home cleaning. Home cleaning should be limited to: Diamonds, Sapphires, and Rubies.
- Use lukewarm soap water to wash or soak for a few minutes.
- Use a soft bristle brush to remove any remaining dirt particles.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and dry with a lint-free, cotton cloth.
- Avoid using chemical cleaners.
- Avoid exposure to extreme heat or abrupt temperature changes as this many cause fractures to the stone.
Professional Cleaning
Technically intricate items and vintage pieces, as well as jewelry containing softer and more delicate stones, such as, but not exclusive to, emeralds, turquoise, coral, pearls or any other gemstone beads on a silk string, should only be professionally cleaned.
Professional servicing by one of our Harry Winston salons is recommended at least once per year, or as needed:
- Salon Service: Steam cleaning only. This service is only available if the condition of the jewelry allows for it and does not address possible underlying concerns.
- Take-In Service: Comprehensive expert assessment of the jewelry’s current condition followed by recommendations for repair work.

Watch Care
Your Harry Winston watch requires special attention, to ensure its performance and longevity.
Here are some tips to consider.
Daily Care & Handling
Cleaning
Your Harry Winston watch can be cleaned using a microfiber cloth or a cotton swab and lukewarm soapy water. Rinse it and dry it with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
Avoid getting straps wet (except rubber), as this may cause damage.
Ensure that the crown is always fully pushed in and/or screwed in, and do not operate the pushers while cleaning your watch, to prevent water from entering the mechanism.
Beauty Products and Chemicals
Avoid exposing your watch to beauty products, creams and perfumes, as these may damage the seals and corrode the materials.
Also avoid contact with solvents, detergents or similar products for the same reasons.
Impacts and Shocks
Impacts or shocks may cause visible damage to the case and may also result in internal damage to the movement, which may not always be immediately apparent. Components may break, and gaskets may be compromised.
If your Harry Winston watch experiences a significant impact, we recommend having it inspected at an authorized service center.
Avoid wearing your watch and jewelry on the same wrist, as this may scratch the metal and damage gemstones.
Storage
Avoid placing your watch face down, as this may scratch the anti-reflective coating of the sapphire crystal.
Do not store your watch too close to other watches or jewelry, as contact may cause scratches to metal surfaces.
We recommend storing your watch in its original box.
When traveling, use a dedicated travel case to protect your watch from potential shocks.
Materials & Components Care
Strap
The wear and tear of a bracelet depend on factors such as climate, the acidity of perspiration, exposure to sunlight, contact with certain products, and how frequently the watch is worn. Leather and satin are materials that are particularly susceptible to staining.
Avoid contact with water, chemicals, soap, perfumes, and oily substances. Also avoid prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light to preserve the appearance of your bracelet for as long as possible.
To maintain the longevity of your strap, we recommend that you do not bathe or shower while wearing your watch (except for rubber).
Diamonds
Avoid contact with chemicals, perfumes, and detergents as these products may tarnish the stones.
If your watch has been exposed to any of these products, rinse it under lukewarm water and gently rub it with a cotton swab or microfiber cloth. Then dry it with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
Check your diamonds regularly to ensure they remain securely set. Impacts or exposure to abrasive products, as described above, may damage the stones or the metal that holds them in place.
Power & Mechanical Care
Battery
If your quartz watch stops, replace the battery as soon as possible. A defective battery can cause damage to the movement if it is not replaced promptly.
It is recommended to replace the battery of your watch approximately every 2 years to prevent oxidation.
To preserve the warranty and ensure proper water-resistance testing, battery replacement must be carried out by an authorized Harry Winston service center.
Winding
Regular winding helps prevent the oils in the movement from drying out. If your automatic Harry Winston watch is not worn regularly, we recommend winding it approximately once a month to ensure proper lubrication of the movement.
Environmental Factors
Water & Humidity
Your watch should not be taken to a sauna, hammam, or jacuzzi, as hot water can damage the seals. After swimming in salt water or in a chlorinated pool, rinse your Harry Winston watch under lukewarm water.
Avoid wearing your watch underwater if the strap material is satin, leather or textile, as this may cause damage. In such cases, we recommend choosing a metal bracelet or a rubber strap.
Extreme Temperatures
Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures (below 0°C or 32°F or above 60°C and 140°F), such as those produced by hairdryers or radiators, as this may damage the seals, battery, and oils. High temperatures can also damage colors and shorten the lifespan of leather or satin straps.
In very cold conditions, we recommend wearing the watch on your wrist to limit the effects of low temperatures and help maintain a temperature closer to that of your body.
Magnetism
Avoid placing your watch near a source of magnetism, such as magnets, television, refrigerator, speaker, or mobile phone. Exposure to magnetic fields may affect accuracy or, in some cases, cause the watch to stop.
Service & Documentation
After-Service Warranty and Maintenance
All work carried out by an official Harry Winston service center is covered by a 24-month warranty. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or damage resulting from accidents or negligence.
To ensure optimal performance and lasting accuracy, your Harry Winston watch requires regular servicing. Over time, oils may dry out and certain movement components may experience natural wear. We therefore recommend servicing your watch approximately every 5 years at an official Harry Winston service center.
For additional information, please consult the FAQ section or contact our Customer Service team at clientcare.timepiece@harrywinston.com.
Water-Resistance
Water-resistance may be affected by the aging of gaskets. We recommend having your Harry Winston watch tested for water resistance every year by an official Harry Winston service center.
To prevent water from entering the mechanism, always ensure that the crown is fully pushed in and/or screwed in after adjusting your watch, and never operate the pushers, correctors, or crown while the watch is underwater.
User Guide
Please read the user manual carefully and follow the instructions for setting and operating your watch.
